Let’s Get Ready To Broadcaaaaast!
• The Kellar Radio Talent Institute gets underway today at Appalachian State University in scenic Boone, NC. Twenty-five students from four area universities have been accepted into the Institute and over the next 10 days will absorb the accumulated knowledge of 40 veteran broadcasters representing Beasley Media Group, Entercom, Curtis Media, iHeartMedia, Capitol Broadcasting and others. Every student attends every session, including the RAB Radio Marketing Professional Certification course.
Trip Savery, President and COO of Curtis Media in Raleigh will deliver today’s first session, “Now Is The Time To Start Thinking Like A Pro.” Another highlight: the syndicated Ace and TJ Show, based at iHeartMedia’s WHQC (Channel 96.1)/Charlotte will broadcast from the Institute, with the students as the live studio audience.
During the one day off-campus, the students will tour the Carolina Panthers’ facility and learn from play-by-play announcer Mick Mixon, then it’s over to Charlotte Motor Speedway with Doug Rice, the voice and President of Performance Racing Network who will take students around the track at over 100 mph. Dan Vallie, Founder of the National Radio Talent System (pictured, far left with Doug Rice), states, “It’s invigorating to all of us to see so many students with a desire for a career in radio. The talent is there, and they are as excited as you and I were when we got into the industry, and the collaborative effort from the industry shows the commitment to young talent and the future of the industry.”
Organizations and companies supporting the Kellar Radio Talent Institute and the National Radio Talent System include North Carolina Association of Broadcasters, Benztown and VCreative. As the Kellar Radio Talent Institute gets underway today, the Beasley Radio Talent Institute continues this week at Boston’s Emerson College, with the TAB Radio Talent Institute beginning next week at the University of Tennessee.
