Life After ‘FUV For Darren DeVivo

• After nearly 42 years (1984-2025) as an on-air personality on Fordham University’s 90.7 WFUV/New York, Darren DeVivo‘s remarkable run was abruptly halted on Sept. 8, the result of the government’s decision to cut funding for public broadcasting, a move that hit WFUV hard. “In an instant, my decades-long career spent at this cutting edge, non-commercial jewel on the New York City radio airwaves came to an end,” DeVivo said. “Having spent my entire adult life — and virtually my entire career — as part of WFUV, made my termination rather traumatic, to say the least.”

However, there is some good news — while DeVivo looks to build his “post-WFUV” career, he has taken that important first step, securing a weekly spot at FM Pilot Triple A WKZE (98.1 KZE), serving New York’s Hudson Valley — as host of Noises From The Valley, Fridays from 7-11pm, starting this week.

Describing the show as “a new adventure at a new home,” DeVivo said, “It’s my singular vision, built from everything I have become over parts of the past five decades. Now, I get to share it all on Friday nights on WKZE. I can’t wait! Let’s boogie!”

KZE co-owner Katie Berghorn remarked, “Darren DeVivo is a true radio legend. His history, taste and warmth as a broadcaster make him a perfect fit for KZE’s mission — to deliver music with heart and soul, free from corporate playlists. We couldn’t be prouder to welcome him to the family.”

DeVivo is still interested in landing additional radio work (preferably remote, if possible). Reach him at darrendevivo@gmail.com. [Photo Credit: Gus Philippas]
