Lori & Julia, Almost Unplugged
• Listeners in the Twin Cities will soon have to learn to live without Lori & Julia as part of their daily routine — after a successful 22-year run on Hubbard Talk KTMY (myTalk 107.1)/Minneapolis-St. Paul, popular afternoon duo Lori Barghini and Julia Cobbs announced their impending retirement, effective at the end of June, thereabouts.
Lori & Julia — affectionately referred to as the single entity, “LoJ,” are longtime best friends and sisters-in-law (Lori is married to Julia’s brother), who have worked together for 33 years, first in the travel and airline business, then as partners in “body enhancement” business called Body Perks, and for past 22 years, radio hosts on Hubbard Radio’s myTalk 107.1.
“It’s been an incredible journey,” says Julia. “We’ve laughed, we’ve cried, and we’ve shared countless unforgettable moments with our listeners. It’s truly been an honor to be welcomed into their lives every day. But I do look forward to NOT having Lori critique my outfits. Every. Single. Week. Before the show started. (laughs) but I love her.” Lori adds, “While we’re sad to say goodbye, once we decide what exact day we are leaving – the party planning to celebrate this great ride will begin! We’re sisters-in-law so we couldn’t get away from each other — even if we wanted to, but it’s time for what’s next.”
“I’ve said it many times and I will say it again — myTalk 107.1 as we know it today exists because of Lori & Julia,” said Dan Seeman, Hubbard VP/Region Manager, Minnesota. “They were the radio station’s first hire, and they built a foundation that would carry us into our 22nd year. Their content from day one was critical in pointing us in the direction of ‘Everything Entertainment.’ They truly made us ‘Laugh Along’ by being their authentic selves, leaving little of their personal lives left to the imagination. Lori & Julia broadcast thousands of ‘Dirt Alerts,’ shared countless hours of pop culture and entertainment news, reviewed hundreds of books, made us laugh (and cringe) with over 1,000 sex Mondays, and survived ‘Project Down & Dirty’ 13 times, including PD&D Pickleball where they reigned as champs! We’ll miss these two — forever and always.”
