McCormick Awarded Middays At The Current
Like many radio pros, McCormick was initially exposed to broadcasting while in college, landing a gig as a host on Radio K while at the University of Minnesota. “Radio K is where I really caught the radio bug,” he said. “Having access to so many different types of music and learning from these incredibly talented veteran DJs was a great foundation for me.”
After graduating in 2013, McCormick transitioned into a position as a freelance writer for the alternative weekly newspaper City Pages, covering the local music beat for three years. He dipped back into radio at now defunct Alt station KQGO (Go 96.3), doing weekends and overnights and hosting the station’s first local show, Local Ties. He was hired at The Current in early 2023 to do overnights and fill-in.
“Working at The Current has made me completely fall back in love with radio,” McCormick said. “It’s a hand-in-glove fit for what I loved about working in radio when I first started, with its community-oriented focus.” [Photo credit: Sara Fish for MPR]
