Mel Named MD @ FM101.9/Orlando
• Hard work and dedication have paid off Melissa “Mel” Sorrentino, Programming Asst. and on-air personality at Entercom Alternative WSFS (104.3 The Shark)/Miami, who has been awarded an awesome upgrade to MD/middays at Alternative sister WQMP (FM 101.9)/Orlando.
Mel began her radio career in 2006 with CBS Radio’s WPBZ (103.1 The Buzz)/West Palm Beach and was later named Promotions Director of The Buzz, WIRK and WEAT. After a brief hiatus from radio, Mel joined Entercom Miami in 2015, where, in addition to her duties at The Shark she co-developed the Ft. Lauderdale-based Riptide Music Festival. She will remain as co-Producer of Programming for the Alternative portion of the festival.
Commenting on her big move, Mel told RAMP, “For years Orlando has been craving an Alternative station where listeners can discover new music and hear jocks that fit their lifestyle. FM 101.9 fills that hole while taking a fun, sometimes goofy approach. I’m super excited to be a part of such a creative team.” Shark PD John O’Connell is currently overseeing both stations until a permanent PD can be hired for Orlando.
