Meruelo Media Eliminates Midday Talent
• In yet another body-blow to the business of live, major market personality radio, RAMP has confirmed that Meruelo Media has made what appears to be cost-cutting moves in its Los Angeles radio group by laying off most — if not all — its midday talent.
We have confirmed three of the downsized personalities are: Bryhana Monegain of Rhythmic KPWR (Power 106); PJ Butta of Classic Hip Hop 93.5 KDAY; and Carolina “Caro” Marquez from Latin Pop KLLI (Cali 93.9). At press time, the status of Marci Wiser at heritage Rock station 95.5 KLOS was still unclear.
Originally from Chicago, Bryhana moved to Southern California to pursue her media career, gaining experience in reality TV and commercials, and hosting celebrity interviews. She started doing part-time on iHeartMedia’s KRRL (Real 92.3)/Los Angeles and KHTS (Channel 933)/San Diego, and in 2017, after short stint on Meruelo’s KDAY, Bryhana transferred to middays on Power 106 as the station’s first Afro-Latina host. She is excited for new opportunities, and can be contacted at bryhanamonegain@gmail.com.
Butta started his radio career 30 years ago at the late, great KKBT (92.3 The Beat)/Los Angeles, where he stayed for 13 years, including a stint at The Beat’s successor, KHHT (Hot 92.3). He had been with KDAY for the past 12 years.
Butta continues to do V/O and imaging for Max Media’s KJHM (Jammin 101.5)/Denver and hosts an internationally syndicated top 20 countdown show, The Official World Chart. He is open to other on-air and V/O opportunities and can be reached at pjbutta@gmail.com.
Marquez joined Cali 93.9 as morning co-host when the station launched in 2019, and later moved to middays. She previously hosted middays on the frequency when it was Regional Mexican 93.9 Exitos under former owner Radio Centro. Marquez has also worked at KXOL (Mega 96.3)/Los Angeles, was a producer at LATV and a reporter for MTV3.
Stand by for further updates.
