Meruelo Realigns L.A. Programming, Marketing

• Meruelo Media, the owner of Classic Hip Hop KDAY/Los Angeles, Rhythmic KDEY (Wild 93.5)/Riverside and the new owner of Rhythmic KPWR (Power 106)/Los Angeles yesterday announced a revised programming and marketing structure that involves two key promotions — longtime Power 106 VP of Programming Jimmy Steal has expanded his programming responsibilities and is now VP of Programming for Power 106, KDAY and KDEY. Down the hall, longtime Power 106 VP of Marketing Dianna Jason adds similar VP duties for KDAY and KDEY.

Meruelo Media President/CEO Otto Padron made Steal’s upgrade official in a statement that read, simply, “We are redistributing the programming responsibilities and duties of KDAY and KDEY under the leadership of Jimmy Steal.”

• Steal’s enhanced responsibilities come in the wake of Monday’s departure of KDAY and KDEY PD Adrian “A.D.” Scott (left), who announced his resignation in a letter that read, in part, “It is with great sadness that I must inform you, that I decided not to move forward with a working relationship at 93.5 KDAY in Los Angeles and Wild 93.5 in Riverside. As many of you may know, I began my journey with KDAY in 2005 and, subsequently, have had some of my greatest moments in radio with this heritage brand. This experience has not only allowed me to grow into a great programmer, but it has also shaped me into a better man and a passionate leader. I am proud of all the unprecedented accomplishments that I was able to achieve with my KDAY team as well as all of the tremendous talent I had the opportunity to coach and support over the years.”

Scott continued, “In 2009, when KDAY was faced with multiple odds as a new station in a sea of many, I made the then risky decision to create and introduce a groundbreaking format into the market that was centered on Classic Hip Hop. Now, there are over 30 stations across the nation modeled on this format. As a lifelong supporter of radio/music culture and a humble aficionado of the impact music can have on the minds and hearts of people, I am incredibly proud of my innovation.” In closing, Scott said, “From the bottom of my heart, I would like to thank everyone who I have worked with over the years, along with those who have been with me in one way or another on this incredible journey. In terms of what future holds, the sky is the limit. I am extremely excited to apply what I have learned and cultivated at KDAY and Wild to the next phases of my journey.” Please help Scott on his journey by contacting him at adrianscott78@gmail.com.
