Moving Day At Urban One DFW
• Big day around the radio ranch at Urban One Dallas-Ft. Worth, as Hip-Hop KBFB (97.9 The Beat) and Urban AC sister KZMJ (Majic 94.5) announce new PDs and revised on-air line-ups.
Let’s start with The Beat, which celebrates the welcome return of Theodore “Big Bink” Turner as the station’s new Program Director. Born and raised in Chicago, Big Bink started his radio career at KBFB as MD/middays before being promoted to Operations Manager for Urban One Columbus, OH and later, Indianapolis. Colby Tyner, VP of Programming for Urban One said, “Every programmer has a dream job and KBFB is where Bink got his start. We are excited to have him back in the PD chair.”
And that’s not all — VP/GM Tami Honesty is making an overall sweeping change to DFW’s Hip Hop station, launching a new midday show from 9am-3pm, hosted by Jazzi Black, formerly a cast member of the Veda Loca in the Morning show. New to afternoon drive is P-Skillz, who moves up from nights and now drives DFW home weekdays from 3-7pm, followed by Boston native Hollywood Zay, a.k.a. the “Mayor of the Microphone,” who closes out your day as The Beat’s new 7-midnight personality. • Across the hall, KZMJ (Majic 94.5) has named Skip Cheatham as its new Program Director. Cheatham (left) currently hosts his own show Saturdays from 2-6pm and also is the Executive Producer & Program Director for The DL Hughley Show, heard in over 70 markets across the country. “Skip is a legend in the DFW,” said Colby Tyner, adding, “We are excited to have him back as a PD in a region he knows intimately.” Indeed, Cheatham is well known for his 15-year run as PD/morning personality on Service Urban KKDA (K104)/Dallas back in the day.
And there’s more: longtime Urban One DFW family member Veda (Loca) Emery launches a new midday show, weekdays from noon-3pm. Currently the anchor of Majic 94.5’s House Party on Saturday nights from 6pm-midnight, Veda Loca (left) famously spent 19 years across the hall at 97.9 The Beat. Urban One Dallas VP/GM Tami Honesty said, “Veda is a big-market voice and influencer that is woven into the fabric of Dallas/Fort Worth.”
