Moving Day For 97X/Tampa
• It’s officially moving day for the format of Cox Media Group Alternative WSUN (97X)/Tampa, which at noon on Wednesday formally migrates to its new home at 97.5, courtesy of St. Petersburg-based translator W248CA (owned by NIA Broadcasting). 97X programming will also be available on WWRM-HD2 and WPOI-HD2, 97xonline.com, the iHeartRadio app, Audacy app, TuneIn app, etc.
As Jenna Kesneck, Director of Branding & Programming for 97X tells RAMP, “We are very excited that this amazing heritage brand is continuing to live on!”
This marks the final act of the company’s divestiture of WSUN and Top 40 sister WPYO (Power 95.3)/Orlando to Spanish Broadcasting System, Inc. (SBS). In February it was announced that SBS was acquiring WPYO/Orlando and WSUN/Tampa from Cox Media Group. The stations had been held in trust by CXR Radio as a result of a divestiture trust mandate by the FCC, which arose from FCC ownership limitations and the sale of Cox Radio in 2019. Last month the Top 40 format and intellectual property formerly housed on WPYO relocated to its new home at 94.5 (WCFB-HD2).
