New Name, New Media Path For Erich West

• After a year away from radio, nice to see Erich West back in the news… West, now using his given name, Erich Brukner — is stepping back into the broadcast world with a fresh mission and a new title.

First, some background: West notably spent 18 years with iHeartMedia Huntsville from 2006-2024, rising to SVP of Programming and PD of legendary Country powerhouse WDRM, which finished No. 1 in every quarterly ratings period, part of a 24-year run — a streak that made WDRM one of the most consistently successful in the country.

That successful run came to an abrupt end in March 2024 when West was released during a large round of downsizing. He spent the last year in retail and e-commerce, serving as Director of Marketing for GigaParts, a national technology superstore with headquarters in Huntsville.

Now, the good news — On April 1, the newly minted Erich Brukner will embark on his new role as Division Director/Radio, for Alabama Public Television, where he will also serve as the General Manager of Huntsville’s WLRH-FM.
