New Star Rises On Dallas Horizon

After 24 hours of stunting — and enough airings of “Closing Time” to last three lifetimes — iHeartMedia Dallas has launched Mainstream AC Star 102.1 on the site of former longtime Alternative outlet KDGE (102.1 The Edge). The station launched today at 5pm CT Thursday and, as expected in the AC realm, is rolling commercial-free with around-the-clock Christmas music through the holiday season. Former Edge PD Jay Shannon will officially take programming command of the new Star 102.1.

We believe this format will resonate well with the Dallas/Fort Worth audience and is a great complement to our other stations in the market,” said Patrick Davis, SVP of Programming for iHeartMedia Dallas Fort Worth. “While we are kicking off commercial-free with Christmas music, we can’t wait to reveal the station’s full programming lineup in the upcoming weeks.”

As we previously reported, former Edge listeners are now being gently redirected over to sister KEGL (97.1 The Eagle), which will become DFW’s “official home to all things rock,” and is now featuring music made famous by The Edge, including hits from artists such as Green Day, Stone Temple Pilots, Nirvana and Red Hot Chili Peppers.
