News From Radio One
• RAMP has learned that Kelly Mac has exited as PD of Urban AC WTLC and Inspirational WTLC-AM (AM 1310 The Light)/Indianapolis. She is expected to reveal her new gig at any moment. Ms. Mac (left) has been on the job there since November of last year, when she arrived from a three-year stint as APD/midday talent at SummitMedia Urban WJMZ (107.3 Jamz)/Greenville-Spartanburg, SC.
Earlier in her career Mac was APD/MD of iHeartMedia’s WDAS & WUSL (Power 99)/Philadelphia and APD of WGCI and midday talent on WVAZ (V103)/Chicago. RAMP caught up with Mac, who said, “I’m very grateful to Urban One for giving me an opportunity in Indy. I believe that I have become even more of an experienced on-air talent & programmer because of this experience, along with my 17+ years in this business. As I transition, I’m thrilled with great anticipation of announcing my future plans very soon.” In the meantime, Kelly’s many friends can stay in touch with her at bookkellymac@gmail.com.
• Meanwhile, down the hall, we recently told you that Joshua “DJ J1” Raiford would soon be leaving as PD of Radio One Urban WHHH (Hot 96.3), Classic Hip Hop Boom 102.9/Indianapolis to go program sister WKYS/Washington. Radio One is actively seeking an Operations Manager to oversee all four Indianapolis stations. The OM position is posted on the Urban One Careers page, and candidates are also urged to send their packages to VP of Programming Colby Colb at ctyner@radio-one.com.
• Radio One has brought in Terrence “T-Storm” Battle as the new Imaging Director for its Philadelphia cluster — Urban WPHI (Boom 103.9), Urban AC WRNB and WPPZ (Praise 107.9). Battle is a major market pro who most recently served as Creative Services Director for iHeartMedia Urban WGCI, Urban AC WVAZ (V103) and Top 40 WKSC (103.5 Kiss FM)/Chicago.
Battle (left) landed in Chicago in October 2014 after a brief stint as the local producer for D.L. Hughley‘s syndicated afternoon show on Cumulus Urban AC WNBM (Radio 103.9)/New York. His previous high-profile New York gigs include Imaging Director for CBS Top 40 WBMP (92.3 AMP Radio) and Creative Services Director for Emmis’ Hot 97 and WRKS. Commenting on his new gig, Battle told RAMP, “I am truly excited and grateful to VP of Programming Colby Colb and Operations Manager Karen Vaughn for the opportunity as well as bringing me back to the East Coast.”
