Now Entering The Doug Podell Studio

• This Friday, Dec. 5, marks the end of an amazing half-century era in Detroit Rock radio, as the legendary “Doc Of Rock” himself, Doug Podell, unplugs for the last time and officially retires from his current role as afternoon drive talent on iHeartMedia Classic Rock 106.7 WLLZ (Detroit’s Wheels).

“It’s been an incredible ride,” said Podell. “From my earliest days at WABX to returning to WLLZ, where I first took on a leadership role, it feels like the perfect place to sign off. I’ve been lucky to spend 50 years doing what I love, in the city I love, surrounded by listeners who made it all worth it.”

“Doug Podell is a Detroit original,” said Casey Krukowski, Program Director of 106.7 WLLZ. “His passion for music, deep connection with listeners, and commitment to radio excellence have left a lasting mark — not only on this station, but on generations of Detroit rock fans. We are honored that he chose to conclude his legendary run right here at WLLZ.”

On Monday, Dec. 1, iHeartMedia Detroit paid tribute to the “Doc of Rock” by dedicating the WLLZ studio in his honor. This hallowed space will henceforth be known to all near and far as “The Doug Podell Studio.”
