One Of Stephen King’s Stations Saved

• In what can best be described as “an 11th hour reprieve,” two local Maine businessmen have stepped up to take over operations of “Stephen King’s Rock ‘N Roll Station,” 100.3 WKIT-FM/Bangor, ME, one of the three financially challenged stations owned by author Stephen King, and which had all been slated to go dark on Dec. 31.

Jeff Solari (right) and Greg Hawes (left) have formed an ownership group, aptly dubbed “Rock Lobster Radio,” and have rescued WKIT-FM.

Solari is a longtime sportscaster and local business owner who formerly worked for King at sister WZON-AM 620 some years back. Hawes and his brother own several area restaurants. In a Facebook post, a jubilant Solari wrote, “My childhood friends will vouch for me when I say I was about 12 years old when I started dreaming of owning a radio station. Today the dream came true. Greg Hawes and I are thrilled to have reached a deal with Stephen King to keep WKIT rockin’ Maine for years to come. It’s a legendary station with a great team!”

At press time, Oldies WZON (Z62)/Bangor and Triple A 103.1 WZLO Dover-Foxcroft were still slated to sign off on Dec. 31. More details are posted here.
