Perfect Match: Irish Show & ‘Irish Dave’
• Congrats to our friend “Irish Dave” O’Connor, PD/afternoon personality on Federated Media Hot AC WAOR (Froggy 102.7)/South Bend, IN, who has formally accepted an offer for an additional part-time major market hosting gig that perfectly befits his nickname — “Irish Dave” has been named as the new host of the long-running Irish Hit Parade that airs weekly on Salem Media’s Religious/Talk WROL-950 AM/Boston. O’Connor will retain his Federated Media gig and host the new show remotely.
“This show has been on-air since 1967 and the previous host (Matt O’Donnell), just retired after 35+ years,” said O’Connor, who, as we have previously reported, relocated from Dublin, Ireland to America in 2014 to pursue his dream of broadcasting in the U.S. He met his wife, Christine in South Bend in 2015.
“To be asked to follow in Matt’s footsteps and play Irish music in such a huge market is quite the honor,” O’Connor tells RAMP. “What a blessing to be offered a show that allows me to share Irish music and culture while living in the U.S.” The Irish Hit Parade airs live Saturdays from 1-4pm ET, and O’Connor makes his hosting debut on Saturday, August 21.
