Popovich Ready To Unplug

• The fabled “Dave Popovich Era” in Cleveland radio will soon be ending, as it was announced that Dave Popovich, longtime VP of Programming for CBS Radio, Entercom and Audacy Cleveland since 2006, will be retiring in early 2023, closing the book on a successful half-century radio career.

The news was formally shared with the Cleveland staff in a memo from SVP/Market Manager Tom Herschelthat reads, in part, of “Dave’s extraordinary career has spanned many decades (hey, he started early!), culminating in a remarkable run with our four primary stations in Cleveland. In particular, his legendary programming skills and uncanny eye for radio talent have helped position [WDOK] Star 102 and [WQALQ104 as iconic brands in the country.”

Popovich’s extensive Cleveland radio experience also includes an earlier programming stint at iHeartMedia’s WMJI & the former WMVX (now WHLK), as well as KIMN/Denver, and other stops in Atlanta and Kansas City and a stint as a consultant with McVay Media.

Herschel added, “He’s going to be a tough guy to replace, but we’ll be putting out a posting soon and Dave will be involved in finding and preparing his replacement for the challenges ahead.”

For his part, Popovich noted, “I am excited to write the next chapters of my life. I am healthy, happy and grateful for the teams I have worked with for 50+ years. I’ve had the time of my life laughing and learning every day. I will miss you, but I will be listening from my cabana on the beach.” Your good wishes can be shared with Dave at dave.popovich@audacy.com.
