Programming: Rex Long & Kim Neaton
• Cumulus Media has named Rex Long as the new PD/on-air talent for Top 40 KKMG (98.9 Magic FM)/Colorado Springs, CO. Long starts Monday, June 26 and earns the transfer after a seven-year run as PD of heritage Top 40 sister WHHY (Y102)/Montgomery, AL. Before that he programmed Cumulus Top 40 KCDD/Abilene, TX. Long started his radio career in Dallas as a producer/air talent at iHeartMedia Top 40 KHKS (106.1 Kiss FM).
In making the announcement of Long’s hire, Bobby Irwin, Operations Manager, Cumulus Media Colorado Springs, said, “There were dozens of remarkable candidates for the position, and Rex stood out as so positive and creative, with the leadership qualities that a station the size of Magic FM deserves.”
Long remarked, “For the longest time, I’ve wanted to be a part of 98.9 Magic FM. Thanks to Bobby Irwin, Scott Jones, Cat Thomas, Doug Hamand and Mike McVay, it’s now a dream come true! I’m humbled to be part of a team where we can all grow together and I look forward to building on this amazing brand in The Springs!” Long succeeds Nikki Landry, who left earlier this year.
• Northshire Communications Alternative WEQX/Manchester, VT-Albany, NY is preparing to bid an emotional farewell to longtime MD/midday personality Kim Neaton, who announced she’s stepping down as a fulltime employee, effective Friday, June 30. Neaton and her fiancée Chris Jordan are getting married on July 1.
The good news is, Neaton, who has been with WEQX since 2009 will continue to be a presence on the station, as WEQX PD Jeff Morad explains, “Kim will continue hosting the local music show, EQX-Posure and will continue organizing the EQX House Sessions, but will be working from home as she frees up time to focus on sales and outside ventures. We wish her nothing but the best, and will miss her finely tuned playlists.” Morad will assume the role of MD, effective July 17.
