Quarter-Century Of Spezzano & Sandy
• It’s a big damn deal in the city of Rochester, NY as Scott Spezzano and Sandy Waters, morning hosts on Audacy Adult Hits WBZA (98.9 The Buzz), this week celebrate 25 years in Rochester radio — the longest-running morning show in market history, we are told. The duo notably came to fame in mornings across the hall on heritage Top 40 WPXY (98PXY) until Sept. 2014, when they packed up and moved over to The Buzz.
To commemorate this remarkable milestone, The Buzz is holding a special invite-only morning show celebration and live broadcast from the iconic Geva Theatre this Friday, Oct. 18, from 6-9am ET. During the show, Spezzano and Sandy will reminisce on two-and-a-half decades of laughs, unforgettable moments and special guests. Rochester Mayor Malik Evans will cap off the festivities by delivering a proclamation (on real parchment) declaring October 18, 2024 as “Spezzano & Sandy Day.” Unfortunately, most area schools will remain open.
“From their days on 98PXY and seamless transition to 98.9 The Buzz, Spezzano and Sandy have been an integral part of the fabric of Rochester radio for 25 years,” said Sue Munn, SVP/Market Manager, Audacy Rochester. “Their ability to entertain listeners in such a relatable way and to develop relationships with countless clients and charitable organizations is a testament to their commitment to and passion for serving the Rochester community. We look forward to Spezzano and Sandy being a continued fan favorite for years to come!”
In a joint statement, Spezzano and Sandy said, “It seemed like a blink of an eye, but 25 years of being able to wake up and engage our listeners has been so much fun. First on 98PXY, and now with the 98.9 The BUZZ fam… we’re so blessed!”
