Radio One Begins Companywide Cuts

RAMP has learned that Radio One/Urban One is actively initiating wide-ranging and painful personnel cuts and/or furloughs, much like those being done by iHeartMedia, Entercom, Beasley and Townsquare in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. We understand that Cumulus and Saga are close to making their own corporate cutbacks.

• Late yesterday we learned that Dustin Kross, Top 40 Format Director of Radio One and PD of Top 40 duo WNOW (RadioNOW 100.9)/Indianapolis and KROI (RadioNOW 92.1)/Houston had been released, along with WNOW & KROI evening personalities Mallory Moreno and Amir Diamond.

Kross (left) arrived in Indy in May 2019 after three years as PD of Cumulus Top 40 KLIF-FM (Hot 93.3)/Dallas. He was previously APD/mornings for former CBS Radio Top 40 WJHM (101.9 AMP Radio)/Orlando and APD/afternoons for iHeartMedia’s WNWW (97.9 Kiss-FM)/Jacksonville. Reach out to Kross at 727-385-0180 or Dustinonair@yahoo.com. Contact Mallory Moreno at MalloryAMoreno@gmail.com; connect with Amir Diamond at 281-660-6480 or AmirDiamondShow@gmail.com.

• We also learned that Marc McCray, VP of Programming & Operations for Radio One Dallas has been furloughed. McCray (center) has been with Radio One Dallas since 2011, preceded by a decade with CBS Radio West Palm Beach. He is reachable via email at MarkMcCray@msn.com.

• Radio One Urban AC WAMJ (Majic 107.5/97.5)/Atlanta has parted company with evening entertainer “Jarard J”Johnson. Johnson (right) joined WAMJ in November 2018, crossing the street from Entercom rival WVEE (V103). Johnson, formerly known as “JX3” back in the day, is probably best known for his 12-year run at Riviera Rhythmic KKFR (Power 98.3)/Phoenix until 2012. He can be contacted at jarardj@gmail.com. If you have been similarly affected, please email your info to Kevin@RAMP247.com.
