‘Rhythm Lab Radio’ Reaches Upstate NY
• WXXI Public Media stations 88.5 WRUR/Rochester and 90.1 WITH/Ithaca, NY have become the latest affiliates of Rhythm Lab Radio, based at WYMS (88Nine Radio Milwaukee). Created and hosted by Tarik Moody, Rhythm Lab Radio will air on WRUR and WITH Sundays from 7-9pm ET.
“We were looking for something new and different that worked with our overall Triple A music format, but also brought in additional audiences, with a more diverse spectrum of Triple A,” said Michael Black, Radio Program Manager at WXXI Public Broadcasting Council. “Having listened to Tarik and Rhythm Lab Radio for some time now, I strongly feel this will be a great addition to the music discovery programming we currently air on Different Radio.”
WRUR and WITH become the 5th and 6th stations to carry Rhythm Lab Radio, joining WXPN/Philadelphia; Vocalo-FM at WBEZ/Chicago; WHRV-FM/Norfolk, VA; and WUNC-FM/Chapel Hill, NC.
Moody launched Rhythm Lab Radio in 2005 on Minnesota Public Radio. The show moved to Milwaukee in 2007 when 88Nine Radio Milwaukee launched. The weekly, two-hour program redefines the Urban sound with a mix of jazz, electronic, hip-hop and soul music, with each episode introducing listeners to new artists that are testing boundaries and making music that does not fit neatly into a single box. “We are excited to be adding WRUR and WITH to the Rhythm Lab family,” said Moody. “The services WXXI provides for the Rochester and Finger Lakes regions parallel the mission and impact we at Radio Milwaukee strive to have on our city.”
Rhythm Lab Radio is available as its full two-hour version or as an abbreviated one-hour show. Interested stations can learn more at radiomilwaukee.org or by contacting Tarik Moody directly at tarik@radiomilwaukee.org.
