Scarpetti Leaving WHJY For New Opportunity
• Big news emanating from iHeartMedia’s venerable WHJY/Providence — Steve Scarpetti, a fixture in the building since 2001, announced his impending departure as Promotions Director and co-host of the popular Doug & Scarpetti afternoon show alongside PD Doug Palmieri, as he has accepted a new position outside of radio. Scarpetti’s last day as a full-time employee is this Friday. That’s Palmieri (left) and Scarpetti (right).
Scarpetti shared his news in a Facebook post, that reads, in part, “After a 25-year run, I’ve decided to step away from my full-time duties on-air at HJY as part of the Doug and Scarpetti Show and as Promotions Director. An amazing opportunity came up and I’d be crazy to not take it. It’s been a hell of a run. I got to live my radio dream. From meeting my heroes, concerts, station trips and working with some of the best talent in radio. It’s a part of my life that I will always cherish.”
The good news is, Scarpetti will remain involved with WHJY in a part-time/fill-in role and will continue to host The Metal Zone.
