Scorpio, Kid Jay Upgraded In SoCal
iHeartMedia yesterday announced two significant Southern California programming upgrades — let’s start with Rob Scorpio, who currently doubles as SVP of Programming for iHeartMedia’s six-station Riverside cluster and PD of Rhythmic duo KGGI/Riverside and Rhythmic KSSX (Jam’n 95.7)/San Diego, who has been rewarded with a newly enhanced role and lengthier title — he’s now iHeartMedia San Diego-Riverside Regional SVP of Programming. Melissa Forrest, Region President iHeartMedia San Diego/Riverside said of Scorpio, “Rob has successfully lead iHeartMedia’s Riverside stations for the last four years, and I’m thrilled that the entire San Diego market will now benefit from his tremendous programming experience and management insights.” Scorpio succeeds former San Diego SVP of Programming John Peake, who was recently named PD of AC KOST and Hot AC KBIG (104.3 MYfm)/Los Angeles.
Prior to joining iHeartMedia in 2013, Scorpio was a successful media consultant. His major market PD credentials include WPGC/Washington, KKBT (100.3 The Beat) and KDAY/Los Angeles and the decade-long gig that originally put him on the industry’s radar, KBXX (97.9 The Box)/Houston. Scorpio remarked, “I’ve developed a great relationship with the team in San Diego over the last year and I can’t wait to be engaged with them on a daily basis. John Peake is a hard to act to follow but I’m up for the challenge.”
Concurrent with Scorpio’s elevation, KGGI MD/night jock Jason “Kid Jay” Wagers is upped to the PD chair. Kid Jay has been with KGGI since 2003 and was upped to MD in June 2015. He has a lengthy SoCal radio history, including stints as Marketing/Promotions Director at KDAY/Los Angeles and APD/Marketing Manager at XHTZ (Z90)/San Diego. Back in the day he was also a team attendant/DJ with the Los Angeles Lakers.
