Scott Childers… And All That Jazz

• Nice to see Chicago’s own Scott Childers back in the programming department full-time, as he checks in to let us know that he has accepted the role of Operations Coordinator at non-comm 90.9 WDCB/Glen Ellyn, “Chicago’s Home for Jazz.”

Childers has spent the entirety of his radio career in the Windy City area, most notably a 20-year run with Alpha Media’s suburban Chicago group — WERV (95.9 The River)/Aurora, and WSSR (Star 96.7) & 1340 WJOL/Joliet — as Chief Engineer, Program Director and on-air talent. He’s also the author of Chicago’s WLS Radio. And speaking of which… for the past year Childers has been working at WLS-AM 890 as fill-in news anchor, reporter and substitute talk host, while also contributing to the station’s 100th Anniversary programming.

Childers said, “Many thanks to Program Director Dan Bindert, with whom I’ll be working with closely, and a special shoutout to Chicago radio and media legends Rick O’Dell and Robert Feder for their support. I’m looking forward to a fantastic journey at this legendary Jazz station, home to an incredibly talented and dedicated staff — many of whom are musicians! Plus, I’m thrilled to be part of a station that hosts Steve Darnall and the iconic Those Were The Days, celebrating its 55th anniversary this year!”

In closing, Childers said, “Lastly, a heartfelt tribute to two WDCB alums who left a lasting impact: my mentor and dear friend Christine Moran, and the esteemed Ken Alexander.” Your good wishes can go with Scott at scott@childers.com.
