Slacker & Steve Splitting Up
• Slacker &… — RAMP has learned that Slacker & Steve, who have driven Denver home on Audacy’s KALC (Alice 105.9) for the past 18 years, will be going their separate ways at the end of the week. According to various local media outlets, including local NBC affiliate KUSA (9News), the guys made the surprising announcement during Monday’s show.
“Things have happened in the last week or so, the Slacker and Steve show as we’ve known these past 18 years is about to change,” Steve said, adding, “I’m leaving the show, there it is. The Slacker and Steve show will no longer exist by the end of this week. Things behind the scenes have changed and we’ve come to a mutual decision and I think we’ve all decided it’s time for me to move on.”
Slacker said Steve has been around long enough to deserve the victory lap, as the show in its current incarnation ends this Friday. “This sucks, this is awful,” Slacker said. “If you’re listening and you think we’re pranking you or whatever, we’re absolutely not. If you’ve been around radio long enough, you know what happens. Steve quits, Steve gets fired, or they mutually agree to split, you’re never hearing Steve again on this station.”
Steve added, “[Management] was nice enough to say ‘Hey, 18 years together, you and Slacker. So, you have to get a chance to say goodbye,’ to everyone, clients, listeners, everybody I guess.” Slacker added, “We’re going to do a week’s worth of shows and then we’re going to say a proper goodbye.” Listen to the duo’s announcement HERE.
