Steve Davis Turns The Page
• Veteran programmer and consultant Steve Davis announced his impending resignation as VP of Programming for Entercom Washington and PD of Classic Hits WIAD (94.7 The Drive) and Rhythmic WPGC, effective October 4 — the final day of his current contract. He plans to return to his longtime home in Richmond, VA, to be closer to his family — and his family business, as he will soon explain.
RAMP chatted with Davis, who told us, “It has been an incredible nine-year run in DC with some of the best in the business. To have been a small part of 94.7 Fresh FM, the iconic WPGC and now 94.7 The Drive has been a blast. There are SO many people to shout out for their incredible guidance and support during my time in DC, but in addition to the incredible staff here I would like to send a special thank you to Jeff Sottolano, Jim Ryan, Steve Salhany, Reggie Rouse and Pat Paxton.”
Davis arrived in Washington as PD of then CBS Radio’s WIAD (94.7 Fresh FM) in Sept. 2010 and later added oversight of WPGC. He was upped to OM of the cluster in Oct. 2012 and named VP of Programming for CBS Radio Washington in Oct. 2014. Prior to joining CBS Radio, Davis spent 13 years as a consultant with Zapoleon Media Strategies. From 2005-2008, he served as VP of Programming for NextMedia Group. In the ’90s Davis famously programmed WRVQ (Q94)/Richmond,and he also held senior programming positions with Four Seasons Communications and Liberty Broadcasting. Davis began his career as an on-air talent, and his extensive radio resume includes such iconic call letters as B96/Chicago, WZGO/Philadelphia, WAPW (Power 99) & WZGC (Z93)/Atlanta, WZNE (Z98)/Tampa and WKXX (Kicks 106)/Birmingham, AL.
As far as the future goes, Davis said, “I’m very excited about the new adventures ahead. In addition to continuing to be involved in this business that I love, I will also be helping my daughter Alex at the Richmond comic book store we bought together two years ago — Alpha Comics & Games and I will also be volunteering at Virginia Voice.” He added, “I have to stay busy, because as my wife will tell you, I’m dangerous when I’m bored!” Davis will remain on the job for now, and can also be reached at sdavis2727@gmail.com.
