Steve King Ready For His Next Chapter

RAMP heard from veteran programmer Steve King, OM of NRG Media’s stations in Lincoln and Omaha, NE, who told us he is retiring from radio, effective this Friday. “I will be going to work with my wife at her mental health agency, Unity Youth & Family Services, which she has owned for the past six years,” he said.

King joined NRG Media in May 2019 as Operations Manager of the company’s five-station group in Lincoln, NE and PD of Country KFGE (Froggy 98). Before that he spent two years as Director of Broadcast Operations for Titan Broadcasting in Burlington, IA. King’s extensive career, which encompasses 15 states(!) also includes programming stints with McKenzie River Broadcasting in Eugene, OR and Cherry Creek Media in Helena, MT. Earlier in his career King programmed KDKB/Phoenix and was Operations Manager for Townsquare Media in Shreveport, LA, El Dorado Broadcasters in Victorville, CA and Clear Channel Bakersfield.

“I grew up in and around radio stations my entire life,” King tells RAMP. “From the day my parents bought me my first stereo at the age of 7, I KNEW radio was going to be my career. I have never worked in another industry EVER! It has been a wild ride, and I have cherished every moment of it. I have some amazing stories to tell and made lifelong friends along the way. I have also had some amazing mentors in Michael Newman, Charlie Van Dyke and Rob Stanley Earnest, who I can never thank enough for their belief in me with their tutelage and ear to bend when I need it most.”

King’s last day in radio is this Friday, Jan. 9. Until then, your best wishes can be shared with him at SteveKing@nrgmedia.com.
