Steve Smith: Free Agent

• Late Monday we learned that our friend Steve Smith, OM/PD of Top 40 WZYP/Huntsville, AL has become the latest longtime Cumulus veteran to be caught up in corporate downsizing, exiting after 20 years with the company — he just received his congratulatory 20-year email two weeks ago. Oh, and Smith (pictured here last Friday celebrating his son Charley‘s first birthday) leaves WZYP on another high note — No. 1 again in all key demos, including the coveted Adults 25-54.

Before earning the transfer to Huntsville in Feb. 2010, Smith programmed Top 40 sister WHHY (Y102)/Montgomery, AL, preceded by a seven-year run at WMGI/Terre Haute, IN, serving as PD from 1999 until 2004.
