The Bell Tolls For KFOG

UPDATED: Cumulus Media Inc. just announced the impending demise of Alternative KFOG/San Francisco — the company plans to flip KFOG to a simulcast of Sports-Talk sister KNBR-AM (680/1050) on Friday, September 6. Cumulus says the expansion of the KNBR brand to 104.5 FM “will offer listeners a stronger signal and provide a broader broadcast range for the station’s leading sports programming.” The move also expands KNBR’s reach onto the FM band, leveling the playing field with Entercom Sports-Talk rival KGMZ (95.7 The Game).

“We are excited to bring KNBR, The Sports Leader and official home of the Giants and 49ers, to a wider audience of sports listeners in the Bay Area,” said Doug Harvill, VP/Market Manager, Cumulus San Francisco. “It’s never easy to say goodbye to a station, and we want to thank the staff, listeners, and advertisers who together made KFOG the legendary and beloved station that so many of us in San Francisco had the opportunity to enjoy.”

Now, the harsh reality: KFOG PD Jacent Jackson tells RAMP that he and his team will be staying on until September 6 and “plan on giving the station a nice send-off.” After that, Jackson can be reached at 415-726-7343 or heyjacent@gmail.com; Arthur Ballesteros (morning show producer): 925-864-0333; Dayna Keyes (middays): 415-527-8444; Mike “No Name” Nelson (afternoons): 415-694-0391 and Danica Lopez (Digital/Nights): 510-908-0635. Jackson added, “I’m really proud of this crew and think the world of them.”

On a deeply ironic note: we are told that the iconic Triple A version of KFOG will be honored at an upcoming Bay Area Radio Hall of Fame ceremony on September 21. Doug Harvill will also be honored during the ceremony.
