Townsquare Launches KLUB Tejano 106.9
• Townsquare Media Victoria, TX has introduced a new Tejano music station to the region, flipping Classic Rock KLUB to KLUB Tejano 106.9. The station debuted at noon Tuesday and is now pumping out Tejano hits to area towns like Goliad, Edna, Port Lavaca and Yorktown, among many others that have never had Tejano music on the radio.
Townsquare Victoria Market President Mason Benitez said they made the move after surveying the needs of the market. “Tejano is huge in this area,” Benitez said. “The concerts are always sold out and any festival featuring Tejano does really well. We wanted to give our audience what they were previously missing on the radio.”
KLUB Tejano will feature Tejano radio legend Bo Corona in afternoon drive. Corona (left) has nearly 30 years of Texas radio experience, including stops at KPRR/El Paso, KTFM/San Antonio, and KXTJ and KQQK/Houston. Corona also helped launch KXTN (now KVBH) in San Antonio.
Victoria’s own JP (right), who currently hosts the morning show with Ingra Lee on Country sister KIXS 108, and a fixture on the local Tejano scene for years, will anchor the midday show on KLUB Tejano 106.9.
Jim Kovacik, Director of Content for Townsquare Victoria, commented, “I’ve worked with Bo before and he has so much passion for radio and Tejano I think people with be blown away. JP has been a big part of this switch. He’s going to be the face of Tejano here in Victoria. We are also hoping to be adding even more Tejano superstars soon!”
• The station will celebrate the launch by hosting a Tejano concert with Grammy-nominated group Los Chamacos at the Mac Haik performance center on Jan. 27.
