Truth: The Award-Winning WMSC
• And the accolades keep coming for Montclair State University’s intrepid WMSC 90.3FM/Montclair, NJ, which recently received seven national awards from the College Broadcasters Inc. (CBI), a national member-driven organization serving students and advisers of college and high school electronic media outlets
Every year at their Fall convention — this year’s was virtual — CBI holds the National Student Production Awards that recognize the best in student television and radio production. Students from all over the nation compete for top honors in multiple categories judged by professionals in the related industry.
WMSC took home two 1st-Place Awards — “Best Video Comedy” and “Best Audio Special Broadcast” for WMSC’s hour of programming during World College Radio Day’s 24-hour global marathon; One 2nd-place award, “Audio Documentary” for Focus Racial Justice; one 3rd-Place award for “Best Imaging,” and two 4th-Place awards: “Best Newscast” and “Best Hard News.”
Finally, and most notably, WMSC’s General Manager Anabella Poland (pictured) was recipient of the prestigious 2021 Joel Willer Award, named after one of CBI’s most influential members and is presented in recognition of exceptional dedication and service to student electronic media. Enjoy the official announcement and this wonderful tribute from Dr. Rob Quicke, Professor of Communication at William Paterson University and the Founder of College Radio Day and Vinylthon. The entire awards ceremony is posted online.

Thank you @AskCBI, the people who nominated me, and my peer @RobQuicke for his kind words! Confucius said “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life”. Well, Confucius…I’m happy to report that I chose that job @wmscradio @montclairstateu. 🙌🏼 pic.twitter.com/WJcPJWSGZb
