Tulsa’s Hunter On The Hunt
• In a surprising development, RAMP has confirmed that veteran programmer Steve Hunter has exited as Director of Radio Operations & Programming for Griffin Media Tulsa.
In a statement, Hunter said, “I have really enjoyed my time at Griffin and can’t say enough good things about the company or the people. Honored to be part of such a wonderful team and five great radio brands. We assembled a great team that will continue to do great things. Just honored to be on the team and proud of our accomplishments. Going to take some time to see what is next.”
Hunter is a rare radio pro who has spent his entire three-decade radio career in Tulsa, notably spending 22 years with Cox Media Group in multiple roles — OM of the five-station Tulsa group, PD of AC KRAV (Mix 96)and Classic Rock KJSR (103.3 The Eagle) and he also served as CMG’s AC Format Leader until his departure in March 2016.
Two months later Hunter was snapped up by crosstown Scripps as OM of Top 40 KHTT (106.9 K-Hits), Classic Hits KBEZ (92.9 The Drive), Country KVOO (98.5 The Bull), Classic Country KXBL (Big Country 99.5) and Sports-Talk KTSB (The Blitz 1170), where he remained through Scripps Tulsa sale to Oklahoma City-based Griffin Communications in July 2018.
