We Can Read Bobby Rich Like A Book

Living his boyhood dream, Rich famously worked at 24 radio stations — most notably, KHJ, KHTZ (K-HITS) & KFI/Los Angeles, and B-100/San Diego in the ’70s and ’80s — got fired by nine of them — and bounced back every time.
Bobby Rich: My Life in Your Radio reveals the on-air stunts, celebrity antics, community involvement, and historical events enjoyed by his listeners in LA, San Diego, New York, Philadelphia, Seattle, Tucson, and nine other markets. As a popular disc jockey on KHJ and KFI, and PD of KHTZ/Los Angeles, Rich worked in an ex-mortuary, nearly got punched out by co-worker Robert W. Morgan, narrated a skydiver’s leap into a birthday cake, and introduced Dr. Ruth to the West Coast. In San Diego, he launched B-100 in 1975, and in 1984 created the legendary B Morning Zoo with The Rich Brothers.
Gaffey interviewed more than 50 radio veterans for the book, which contains in-depth information on the hit songs and stories from Rich’s enduring career as a personality and programmer from the 1960s until his 2023 retirement in Tucson.
