Who’s New At WHO? Henson, That’s Who

• iHeartMedia Des Moines this week welcomes major market veteran Gregg Henson as Program Director of NewsRadio 1040 WHO, succeeding Cole Bair.

“NewsRadio 1040 WHO is one of the most respected News-Talk stations in Iowa, built on a strong foundation of trusted voices and programming,” said Steve Geofferies, iHeart EVP of Programming. “Gregg’s experience and leadership will support our strong team and help WHO continue delivering the high-quality programming listeners rely on every day.”

Let’s talk experience… Henson arrives in Des Moines from equally scenic Grand Rapids, MI, where he has programmed Cumulus Classic Rock 97 WLAV and Country WTNR (Thunder 107.3) since late 2022. Before that he programmed Audacy News-Talk WRVA-AM 1140 & 96.1 and Sports-Talk WRNL (Fox Sports 910 & 105.1)/Richmond, VA. A native of Troy, MI, Henson is probably best known for his two decades in Detroit radio, starting at Classic Rock WCSX. Six years later, he joined Sports-Talk WDFN-AM as Director of Programming/morning host, and in the early ’00s he segued to WKRK-FM and created a ground-breaking hybrid FM “Hot Talk” show, Motor City Middays, with Michelle McKormick.

Henson’s lengthy career also includes a stint as Director of Programming for iHeartMedia News-Talk WPGB-FM and Sports-Talk WBGG-AM (970 ESPN)/Pittsburgh and Director of Sports Content for iHeartMedia Pittsburgh. He also programmed WPEN-AM/Philadelphia and Clear Channel Sports-Talk KVET/Austinback in the day.

“We are thrilled to welcome Gregg to the iHeart team,” said Jen Stocker, Area President, iHeart Nebraska/Iowa Area President. “Gregg’s passion, strategic vision and dedication to strong local content perfectly align with our mission to deliver trusted, top-tier programming to Des Moines and surrounding communities.”

“I’m incredibly excited to return to iHeartMedia and work with the legendary staff at NewsRadio 1040 WHO,” said Henson. “WHO’s legacy of trusted news and strong local voices is unmatched, and I’m focused on building on that foundation and continuing to deliver relevant, impactful programming for listeners across Iowa.”
