WIMZ Mornings: A New Era

• With the impending retirement of the long-running syndicated John Boy and Billy Show at the end of this month, Midwest Communications’ Classic Rock 103.5 WIMZ/Knoxville looks inward to fill that yawning void. Doubling down on its commitment to East Tennessee with a morning show created by — and for — the local community, WIMZ will debut a brand-new, live and local morning show featuring beloved existing WIMZ personalities, Jay Mac and Drake Meredith, beginning Jan. 5.

Jay Mac brings 15 years of WIMZ experience to mornings after hosting the station’s popular night show, while Meredith, who joined WIMZ in 2019, currently does weekends and has become a fan favorite with his self-deprecating humor and memorable stories, embracing his role as Knoxville’s self-appointed “shenanigan specialist.”

Known for her storytelling, community involvement, and authentic connection with listeners, Jay Mac also serves as lead singer of the WIMZ Garage Band, which performs throughout East Tennessee. Jay Mac shared her excitement for this new opportunity, saying, “With wonderful memories of The Night Show, and a heart full of gratitude and love, I am absolutely thrilled to say ‘Good Morning, East Tennessee!’ Buckle Up Buttercup, this is going to be one wild and crazy ride!”

• We also want to take this opportunity to extend our best wishes to Midwest Communications’ VP of Programming Jeff McCarthy, who Friday, Dec. 12, marks his 41st anniversary with the company! Your congrats can be shared with Jeff at jeff.mccarthy@mwcradio.com.
