World Cafe Marks 30 Years
• In celebration of the 30th anniversary of the NPR-syndicated music show World Cafe, which currently carried by 267 radio stations across America, live webcasts featuring conversation and performances with artists Lizzie No, Amythyst Kiah, Devon Gilfillian and Keb Mo will take place Tues., April 5 & Wed., April 6 from the National Museum of African American Music in Nashville.
On Tuesday, starting at 7:30pm CT/8:30pm ET, World Cafe host Raina Douris will interview Lizzie No and Amythyst Kiah, and on Wednesday will chat with Devon Gilfillian and Keb Mo. Each artist will also perform, with both events streamed live at xpn.org and NPR Live Sessions. The audience will include members of WXPN/Philadelphia, which produces World Cafe, along with members of Nashville public radio stations WMOT and WPLN and the National Museum of African American Music.
Douris said, “It’s no secret that Nashville is a vital center for music. World Cafe established a bureau in Nashville in 2016, and we’re honored to partner with the National Museum of African American Music to go even deeper with our coverage of the exciting and diverse music coming from Nashville and throughout the Southern US.”
“The National Museum of African American Music is excited to partner with World Cafe as we continue our efforts of preserving and celebrating the many music genres created, influenced, and inspired by African Americans,” said Brennen Boose, Sr. Manager of Marketing & Communications of the Museum.
