WPLN Names Marshall Education Reporter
• Nashville Public Radio has named Alexis Marshall as WPLN‘s new Education Reporter. At a time when Tennessee is taking a central role in debates over charter schools, education vouchers and the way race and history is taught in classrooms, Marshall will bring energy and new voices to WPLN’s coverage.
“Education reporting lies at the intersection of so many critical issues. It involves economics, race, class, the justice system,” says Marshall. “And the way we educate students will influence the future of this state, our country, even the future of democracy. I take the role on with an enormous sense of duty and humility.”
Marshall grew up attending Rutherford County public schools and graduated from Middle Tennessee State University. She began her career at WPLN as an intern in 2018 before joining as a full-time producer and host for Morning Edition. She quickly carved out her own reporting interests on subjects, including immigration, labor and economics. Her work has appeared nationally on NPR, Here & Now and Marketplace Morning Report. She recently wrapped up a week-long intensive seminar called the Berlin Capital Program in Germany as one of 25 Fulbright scholars.
