Z89 Birthday Banquet Returns Live
• It’s long been known that WJPZ (Z89), Syracuse University’s student-operated radio station has been the training ground for dozens of today’s successful radio pros.
Now, to mark the 37th year of WJPZ on the FM band, the WJPZ Alumni Association announced its 37th Annual Birthday Banquet will be held on Saturday, March 5, live on campus. This will mark the group’s first in-person gathering since March 2020. Last year’s event was held virtually.
Nearly 100 alumni and students will attend this year’s celebration, which will be highlighted by a special keynote conversation with Beata Murphy, Program Director of KIIS-FM/Los Angeles and Josh Wolff (’03), SVP of Programming for iHeartMedia Allentown, PA. The evening’s festivities will be emceed by Stephen Donovan (’95), most recently morning host at WWLI (Lite 105)/Providence.
Also during the Banquet weekend, the WJPZ Alumni Association will also introduce its 13th class in the WJPZ Hall of Fame. New members are: Matt Delsignore (’02), longtime radio news anchor and reporter at KDKA-AM/Pittsburgh and WNEW-FM/New York; Dave Dwyer (’86), Paulist Father, Host of SiriusXM’s Busted Halo; and Scott Meach (’90), entrepreneur, longtime WJPZ Alumni Association President and multi-year GM.
“Even as the radio business changes, WJPZ continues to be known throughout the industry as The Greatest Media Classroom,” said Kevin Rich (’07), Market President, Townsquare Media Albany and current President of the WJPZ Alumni Association. “Once again, this weekend brings together students, alumni, and leaders in the industry to prove why the station is one-of-a-kind in the nation.”
