Detroit Wakes Up To ‘Mason & Starr’
• Beasley Media Group Urban AC WDMK (105.9 Kiss FM)/Detroit announced the debut of the new Mason & Starr Morning Show, beginning Monday, March 22. The new show will be anchored by Motor City radio legend John Mason, who moves back to mornings from middays, replacing the syndicated Rickey Smiley Morning Show.
The move also marks a reunion for Mason and and his new co-host, Angie Starr — she was a former cast member of the Mason & Coco morning show on Kiss FM until three years ago, when then-owner Radio One installed the syndicated Tom Joyner Morning Show in morning drive. Mason then moved to middays and Starr remained as the Joyner show’s local anchor. More recently she’s been doing nights and weekends on Kiss.
“Mason & Starr will be a show all about Detroit and the lives of our incredible listeners,” said Mason. “We will have fun, play lots of Smooth R&B and Old School music, and have really cool giveaways. Tune in weekday mornings to hear the REAL Detroit!” Starr remarked, “I was born and raised in Detroit so I’m excited to partner with Mason in bringing fun, information and positive energy to morning radio in the Motor City.”
Zannie Glover, PD of 105.9 Kiss FM and WMGC (105.1 The Bounce), said, “It’s a privilege to welcome the legendary Mason and Angie Starr back to mornings in Detroit. I am most excited for our Kiss FM listeners. Ask anybody in Detroit and they’ll tell you Mason is The MAN!”
“Now more than ever, familiar, genuine voices are local radio’s strongest asset,” said Scott Jameson, Beasley VP of Content & Director of Detroit Programming. “Mason’s brand equity, along with Angie’s infectious energy and authenticity, will jump start the day for 105.9 Kiss FM!”
