Extreme Makeover, KGO Edition
• Cumulus News-Talk KGO 810/San Francisco announced a revised new on-air lineup that takes effect on Monday, March 11 and includes the fulltime addition of three veteran talk show hosts — Mark Thompson, Pat Thurston and John Rothman.
Thompson (left) is a 30-year radio veteran who has worked at KABC and KFI/Los Angeles, along with a previous stint at KGO. He is also a veteran TV reporter and weatherman in Denver, Los Angeles and New York, along with eight years at KRON-TV/San Francisco. Thurston (center) is upped to fulltime status after working weekends at KGO for the last 12 years. She is an Army veteran who also worked for the U.S Secret Service. Prior to joining KGO, Thurston anchored the daily radio coverage of the O.J. Simpson trial on the former KPIX-FM. Rothman (right) has been a member of the KGO family for more than 20 years, hosting various shows on the station since 1996. He is a former college professor, author, lecturer, foreign policy consultant and an expert on the U.S. Presidency. He is proud of his personal library of more than 15,000 books, viewed as one of the finest private library collections in the country, specializing in American political history and political biography.
“I’m excited to be able to add more live and local programming to KGO,” said Lee Hammer, OM/PD of KGO-810. “KGO is talking about the major stories of the day and the impact they have on our daily life. To get those conversations started, we’ve added three outstanding and veteran talk show hosts, each with their own unique style of engaging, informing and entertaining our listeners.”
Effective March 11, KGO’s weekday line-up will look like this — 5-10am: The Armstrong and Getty Show;10am-noon: The Mark Thompson Show; noon-3pm: The Pat Thurston Show; 3-6pm: The Chip Franklin Show; 6-9pm: The John Rothman Show; 9pm-5am: The John Batchelor Show.
