Family First For Nikki Oswald
• Back in September we first shared the news that Nikki Oswald would be stepping down from her morning co-host spot alongside Jason Spicoli on NRG Media Hot AC KQKQ (Sweet 98.5)/Omaha at the end of the year to spend more time with her children. Yesterday, Nikki formally broke the news to her listeners, announcing that her last day on the air is next Friday, Dec. 15 — the same day OM/PD David Adams will introduce her replacement.
Video of her big announcement is posted here, along with a letter from Oswald that reads, in part, “We often hear and receive messages saying, ‘Thank you, you get me through my morning.’ Let’s face it, life is hard. I want you to know that goes both ways. One of the hardest parts of this job is the time it takes. That’s one of the biggest reasons I’m stepping back from a career I love, is to prioritize another job that I love and the most important one I have: the one at home.”
Oswald began her radio career in Norfolk, NE in 2008, co-hosting mornings and doing middays on KQKX-FM, KEXL-FM and News-Talk WJAG, then spent five years with NRG Country KFGE (Froggy 98.1) prior to transferring to Sweet 98.5 in the fall of 2018. She was initially teamed up with Matt Tompkins, then in Jan. 2020 with Laura Blenkush, forming the market’s only all-female morning show, which ran until the summer of 2021, when Blenkush left and was replaced by current co-host Jason Spicoli.
In closing, Oswald’s letter said, “I love radio. I love this station. I love this show. I’ll miss it all terribly, but I can’t miss these too-fast years of my kids being kids. I’ll be listening and laughing and cheering for you all… from home. Thank you for sharing your life with me.”
