Howell Adds An Hour At WLS/Chicago
• Cumulus News-Talk 890 WLS-AM/Chicago kicks off 2021 by extending the afternoon time slot of longtime station veteran John Howell by an hour — The John Howell Show, which has run from 5-7pm weekdays since 2018 now adds an extra hour and will be enjoyed from 4-7pm beginning today, January 4.
Stephanie Tichenor, Program Director of 890 WLS-AM, noted, “For 97 years, The Big 89 has been a source of information and entertainment for our Chicagoland audience. And in 2021, 890 WLS-AM is serving up more local programming weekdays for our listeners, with more John Howell who will start an hour earlier at 4pm weekdays. Ben Shapiro remains Howell’s lead-in from 2pm-4pm. Howell’s ability to break down the news of the day while engaging our listeners with his no-nonsense style is what makes his show an audio afternoon delight. We are thrilled to have more Big John in 2021!”
Howell previously co-hosted the Big John and Ramblin’ Ray Show on WLS from 2014-2018 and has been a daily presence on Chicago radio for more than 30 years. He arrived in 1988 to host mornings at WCKG, followed by 17 years at WUSN and an eight-year run at WIND. He also hosted a nationally syndicated weekend show for Westwood One from 1998-2006. Howell commented, “With the new year, new administration, new vaccine and new lineup comes new opportunities. I’m happy to have the additional time to serve our listeners and clients. In the age of COVID, it’s best to keep moving.”
