Now Entering San Antonio: Frito & Katy
• Earlier this week RAMP exclusively revealed that Tucker “Frito” Young and Katy Dempsey were leaving their decade-long (and award-winning) morning show on Bryan Broadcasting Top 40 KNDE (Candy 95)/Bryan-College Station, TX for a larger opportunity TBA. We can now reveal that the duo is packing for a move to San Antonio to become the new morning show on Cox Media Group Country KCYY (Y100), starting Monday.
“I’m so excited to add the award-winning Frito & Katy show to the Y100 lineup,” said Christi Brooks, Director of Branding & Programming for KCYY. “They bring authenticity and incredible passion for serving our local community and entertaining morning listeners in San Antonio. I can’t wait to see the new heights we’ll achieve with our already successful Y100 team!”
Indeed, Frito and Katy have racked up a veritable truckload of awards during their historic run in College Station, including eight Best of the Brazos Valley “Best Radio Personality” awards, the 2021 Marconi for Small Market Personality of The Year, three Station Of The Year Marconi’s, three NAB Crystal Radio Awards, and the NAB Leadership Foundation’s 2021 “Celebration of Service to America” award for local community service. Oh, and in their not-so-spare time, Frito was OM of the Bryan cluster and Katy was PD of Candy 95. Both are graduates of UT Austin.
In a joint statement, Frito and Katy said, “To do morning radio with your best friend in a city we both love with a company like CMG is really a dream come true. Our show is all about community, and we can’t wait to serve San Antonio!”
• Frito & Katy succeed Y100’s previous morning duo of Beth Chandler and “Big Joe” Pesh — Pesh returned home to Michigan last fall to host mornings on Townsquare Hot AC WLHT (Mix 95.7)/Grand Rapids, and Chandler did her final morning show on Thursday.
