Rodney In Spaaaaaaaace!
It’s a move that many figured would happen, and now it’s confirmed — less than five weeks after he departed his longtime position at KROQ/Los Angeles, veteran music influencer Rodney Bingenheimer is taking his talents to SiriusXM. Bingenheimer is long known for helping to launch and champion such artists as The Sex Pistols, The Ramones, Tom Petty, Blondie, Elvis Costello, Van Halen, The Clash, The Smiths, The Go Gos, The Runaways, The Bangles, Oasis and many more. He is also credited for reviving classic acts and album cuts from The Monkees, Beach Boys, The Standells and The Ventures while also helping launch exciting new music from the likes of The Regrettes, The Atomics, The Moon Kids, The Tearaways and Beck Black, to name a few.
The satcaster announced Wednesday that Bingenheimer, beloved for hosting his iconic “Rodney on the ROQ” show for over 40 years on KROQ, will now host a weekly music show on SiriusXM’s Little Steven’s Underground Garage Channel. The show will premiere Sunday, July 16 at 9pm ET/6pm PT on Channel 21 and online at SiriusXM.com. The news was initially posted on Rodney’s Facebook page.
“I’m so honored to be on the same SiriusXM channel as Little Steven,” said Bingenheimer, shown here signing his deal over lunch. “He has also championed some of the greatest music of our time, both past and future. With both of us now at the same channel we’re gonna keep great music alive. Especially for me, being on at an earlier time, I can have more listeners who don’t have to worry about missing work or school the next day. To be on in primetime on the East Coast as well is also exciting.” Van Zandt said, “Rodney was one of my first calls when I started the channel. We are honored to have him. This is where he belongs!”
