Stroud Taking A Longer Drive
• Veteran air personality Bob Stroud has signed a new, long-term deal with Hubbard Radio Classic Rock WDRV (97-1 FM, The Drive)/Chicago, extending his run as midday host, weekdays from 9am-2pm. He will also continue to host his long-running Sunday morning specialty show, Rock & Roll Roots.
With a stellar career that spans 41 years (and counting), Stroud began his radio career in Florida. Soon thereafter, his long Chicago tenure began at the iconic WMET. Since then — with the exception of a nine-month assignment in Philadelphia — Stroud has remained an uninterrupted presence on Chicago airwaves at WLUP, WCKG, AM 1000, WXCD, WXRT, and, for the past 17 years, at WDRV.
While waiting for the ink to dry, WDRV PD Rob Cressman commented, “Bob is not only an exemplary brand ambassador for The Drive, he is an iconic brand in Chicago. Bob’s experience with Classic Rock’s artists and his deep understanding of what makes the genre timeless have ensconced him as one of Chicago’s premiere sources for music curation. His contributions to the Classic Rock format have been widely celebrated throughout his career. We are thrilled to know that the daily companionship Bob provides the Chicago community will endure for many years to come.”
Weighing in on sweet new deal, Stroud said, “I was the first disc jockey to crack the mic at The Drive. Seventeen years later, through all thick and no thin, I’m still cracking The Drive mic and astounded at my good fortune. To have been brought here in the first place was an honor. Now, at this hour, to have my stay extended is a dream. I’m beyond grateful to Hubbard-Chicago and Hubbard Radio for their faith in me.”
