The Block/NYC Inks Shelley Wade & Ed Lover
• UPDATED: Audacy welcomes a couple of very familiar New York names to four-month-old Classic Hip Hop WXBK (94.7 The Block)/New York — Shelley Wade will drive you home weekdays from 2-7pm, followed by Ed Lover from 7-10pm ET. Both moves are effective March 21, and Lover will retain his existing morning show on Audacy sister WBMX (104.3 Jams)/Chicago.
No stranger to Market No. 1, Wade notably spent 12 years with Z100/New York. She has also worked at KBXX (97.9 The Box)/Houston, KBIG (104.3 MYfm)/Los Angeles and KMYI (Star 94.1)/San Diego. As an entertainment journalist, Wade has also appeared on Today, The Talk, The Steve Harvey Show, Access Hollywood, Inside Edition and more. She’s also the host of the All The Rage With Shelley Wade podcast.
Ed Lover is probably best known as one of the original hosts of MTV’s groundbreaking series, Yo! MTV Raps! In 1993 Lover and his partner and friend Dr. Dre dove into morning radio, becoming the first all hip-hop morning show on HOT 97/New York. In 1999, Lover left HOT 97 to reunite with Dre on KBBT (92.3 The Beat)/Los Angeles. Two years later, Lover returned home to New York to become an original air talent for iHeartMedia’s WWPR (Power 105.1), and in 2010, he hosted Backspin on SiriusXM before launching the syndicated Ed Lover Show with Monie Love in 2016.
Wade said, “I’m so very excited for this new ride on The Block. Wow, coming back to NYC. These eight years I’ve been away have flown by. It feels like I took a sabbatical to SoCal to hike, take in the ocean, meditate and now my battery’s recharged and I’m ready to take on New York again. Thanks to Skip Dillard, Chris Oliviero and Audacy for believing in me, my brand and what I bring to the table. This is going to be fun.” Lover remarked, “I’m extremely happy and grateful to be back on the air in NYC, my home. No matter where I’ve traveled, New York is always with me. God bless this city! I’m back and energized!”
“These two additions signal the growth of our new station as we fill out its first-ever air staff,” said Chris Oliviero, SVP/Market Manager, Audacy New York. “Both Shelley and Ed possess rich experience in this format and have the talent, insight and entertainment value that will make them stars on 94.7 The Block.”
