Waking Up With New People
• Nick Steele & Kristen Flowers are the new morning show on Entercom AC KOIT/San Francisco, beginning Thursday, January 5. Nick & Kristen will transition from Entravision Country KNTY (101.9 The Wolf)/Sacramento, CA, where they’ve been waking up the market for the past 2 1/2 years. They debuted as a morning team in 2012 at Midwest Communications’ WMGI/Terre Haute, IN.
KOIT OM/PD Brian Figula said, “Nick & Kristen’s super chemistry and appetite to produce great morning radio is exactly what we are looking for.” VP/Market Manager Steve DiNardo added, “We’re thrilled to bring Nick and Kristen to San Francisco’s No. 1 at-work station, 96.5 KOIT. Their unique chemistry and entertaining personalities are sure to inspire smiles during the Bay Area’s morning commute.” In a statement, the duo said, “We’re thrilled to become part of the 96.5 KOIT team lead by Steve DiNardo and Brian Figula. It’s an honor to bring our morning show to such an iconic station.” Nick & Kristen succeed Andrew Hart, who resigned in December and is now exploring opportunities outside of radio.
• In the wake of the recent departure of Ron Brewer from the Paul & Young Ron Show on iHeartMedia Classic Rock WBGG (Big 105.9)/Miami, the station has implemented several changes, including a rebranding of the program to The Paul Castronovo Show and the addition of a new on-air foil — the lovely and talented Ghia, who most recently co-hosted the afternoon show with Trey Morgan on CBS Radio’s WNEW (Fresh 102.7)/New York. Ms. Ghia got her start as a phone-screener for Elvis Duran on Z100, and has also plied her trade at WBLI and WBAB/Long Island and the former WRDW (Wired 96.5)/Philadelphia.
Castronovo’s new team also includes former cast member “Smart Dressed John,” who returns to do sports, and local comedian Luis Diaz, who will double as the show’s audio producer. Reflecting on Day One, PD Dave Hill told RAMP, “I would love to tell you we are off to a great start — but we went to dinner with the new show, got drunk and stole the giant ‘All You Can Eat’ cow/sign from in front of the restaurant… we got caught. That being said, I’m very impressed they all showed up on time the first day!”
