WDVE: Farewell, McDowell, Hello Tyson & Rose
• iHeartMedia Classic Rock 102.5 WDVE/Pittsburgh, the radio home of the Pittsburgh Steelers has hired Chad Tyson to do afternoon drive, effective Thursday, August 1. He succeeds station legend Sean McDowell, who is retiring after his show tomorrow, July 31, capping off a 41-year radio career, the last 26 years spent at WDVE. Tyson (pictured, left, with McDowell) earns the transfer to Pittsburgh from Wheeling, WV, where he was doing afternoons on Mainstream Rock sister WEGW (Eagle 107.5). Before that he was Digital Coordinator at iHeartMedia Classic Rock WKGR (Gater 98.7)/West Palm Beach, FL.
At the same time it was announced that Russ “Whip” Rose (left), who does middays across the hall on Alternative clustermate WXDX (The X @ 105.9) will annex the 8-midnight shift on WDVE. “We’re thrilled to have Chad join the WDVE family,” said PD John Moschitta. “Tyson’s charismatic personality, accompanied by his extensive knowledge of music and sports, make him the perfect fit for our listeners, and having Russ Rose as evening host is the icing on the cake for our program lineup.”
“One of my goals since starting my radio career has always been to work at 102.5 WDVE in Pittsburgh,” said Tyson. “When I got the call, my wife asked me how it felt and I said, ‘Remember when Santonio Holmes caught that game-winning pass in Super Bowl 43 and we beat the Cardinals? It feels like that.'”
