Staying Out Late With Jain
It took about half of the first song to figure out that we were witnessing a very special artist. That was our experience last week as we were invited to witness RCA’s exciting up-and-coming artist, Jain perform at the legendary Troubadour in Hollywood.
From our aerial vantage point upstairs, it was fascinating to observe the packed SRO crowd jammed up toward the stage, many already mouthing the lyrics to Jain’s quirky songs and energetically jumping on command on her command… and there was a lot of jumping. The Parisian native, alone on stage with the exception of a sampling unit, engaged the willing audience with an hour-long set that included “Hob,” “Mr. Johnson, “Son of a Sun,” “Hope,” Heads Up, “All My Days, “City,” “Lil’ Mama,” “Paris,” “Makeba, “So Peaceful,” “Dynabeat” and her latest single, the infectious “Come,” which, we are told, is already Top 15 Triple A and is new this week at Alternative outlets KNRK/Portland and WLKK (Alternative Buffalo). Check out the unique and inventive video.
Afterwards, it was time for a toast at the upstairs bar. Pictured, (l-r): Marc “Mookie” Kaczor, MD of KCSN/Los Angeles, RAMP‘s Kevin Carter, Chris Muckley, Music Host at SiriusXM and KCRW/Santa Monica, our genial host, RCA’s Artie Gentile and Samantha Hissong of HITS.
