Scholarship A Dream Come True

• The Morning Dream Team on Bonneville Urban AC KBLX/San Francisco awarded another Dream Team $1,000 Scholarship to Karris Brooks of Sacramento, CA, courtesy of KBLX & The Black College Expo. Ms. Brooks wrote a 500-word essay about ways she has improved her community. She also spent hours planning and hosting parties for the parents and sick children at Shriner’s Hospital. She continues to volunteer at local hospitals with a focus on pediatrics. Karris is also the President of her school BSU.

Karris was in complete shock when it was announced she was the winner of the February 2018 Dream Team $1,000 Scholarship. And then it got even better — Dr. Theresa Price, the Founder of The Black College Expo and a recruitment officer from Valley Ford University in Georgia accepted Karis into the university LIVE ON THE AIR!

OM/PD Elroy Smith said, “It is a moving experience to see an aspiring student in tears because of the $1,000 contribution toward her education. Our next $1,000 scholarship campaign will target adults who have decided to return to college or a trade school.” Karris will use her scholarship money towards tuition as she plans her college education around her future career as a journalist.
