New Calls For ALT 92.3/NYC
The station has enjoyed a rather active recent format and call letter history, dating back to its two-decade-long Howard Stern era as WXRK (92.3 K-Rock), which lasted until December 2006, right after Stern’s departure to SiriusXM. After an ill-fated year-long attempt at FM Talk as WFNY (92.3 Free FM), the WXRK calls returned in May 2007 when the K-Rock brand was relaunched — and lasted for another two years until March 2009, when CBS Radio launched Top 40 92.3 Now. The WXRK calls remained in place until November 2012, when they were finally replaced by the more compatible WNOW calls. [Ed. note: Those calls now reside in Indianapolis, comfortably affixed to Radio One Top 40 RadioNOW 100.9].
In May 2014, CBS Radio rebranded the station again as 92.3 AMP Radio, and a month later introduced the WBMP calls. OK, we need to sit down now.
